As the Eskimo and I turned up at the car park we came across many cars which we thought were new hashers but in the event turned out to be ramblers. However our dissapointment did not last long as we did indeed have two new newcomers - Nicholas and Evrim, as well as a second appearance from Sophia from Argentina and the return of Hash Flash and The Panda.
A short preamble and a plea for hares and then we wereoff through the stinging nettles and up the hill towards the first check. I was a bit surprised tht not all of the hashers treated the hill as a challenge but decided to walk up it and conserve their energy for the final sprint in.
The first check overwith only Bambi fooled and on anever upwards. At the next check the trail had a choice of up or down and whilst a few brave souls decided it must be up the majority opted for the downward trail which led back up again anyway.
Rasta had decided that after a short period of injury enough was enough and retraced her steps home but when Miss Perfect decided to do the same on the grounds that Linda (dog) was tired we gegan to wonder if the hills were in fact a bit hasher unfriendly.
No problems though as Old Faithful led the packon a long falsie and Jairo did the same whilst the Can Man found a hidden trail through the undergrowth that proved to be the true path.
Breaking out into the sunlight from the depths of the forest all of the pack split up with a hardy contingent not only following the longest falsie of the day but managing to overrun it and add even more to their discoumfort. It just give a hare that warm feeling deep down.
Mussolini did his usual trick of standing on a falsie and waiting for the pack tofollow but this time they were having none of it. Pancsi led the way into the deep dark forest again whilst the Eskimo offred a shortcut to certain tired hashers who were feeling the hills.
Bambi and Hash Flash scorned such offerings and insisted upon running the entire course even though they were at the back by now.
The next check led everybody off toward home just because it was ten to twelve with only The Chamois and a few others checking the carefuly ladid falsies to their right. However one last sting in the tail led the front runners off on a wild goose chase whilst the pack jogged down the hill towards the last check and home. A nice gentle downward on in with a few strange characters even running back through the stinging nettles????
We arived back at the car park to find that Miss Perfect and more importantly Linda (the dog) were missing, so after awarding The Panda and Hash Flash a joint hashit for being silly enough to come back to us Treefeller and Mussolinin went off to find Miss Perfect in the 4 wheel drive. 5 minutes after they arrived both missing ahshers turned up and so we went to the new Star and Garter and left them in the forest.
The Star and Garter has been changed from the traditional country pub weonce new into a modern resturant and bar where even the pumpsare hidden away lest they scare off countryside wannabies looking for white wine and soda. Is it an improvement? Only time will tell. On On!Humble Scribe.
