Run 553 | 10 April 2005 | The Can Man and Treefeller | Angmering Park - Dover Car Park | TQ060064 | | | | |
It had been some time since we had run here. We arrived to find a herd of ramblers getting ready for their Sunday morning exercise all resplendent in their cross country camo gear. Why is it that ramblers need to dress up as though they are on a 50 mile cross country route march just to go for a three mile stroll?
Still we dress up as athletes so - ‘nuf said!
The JMs gave the shortest of preambles and then we were off into the woods following the flour.
The first couple of checks were fairly standard with the pack scurrying around looking for even the vaguest of clues and then deeper into the woods before we circled back to the chariots once more.
At this point Splasher have decided to turn up and join us and took his place at the rear of the pack as he knew which way the trail went.
We curved around and back into the woodland and came across a fork where the pack split and The Gnu sailed off into the distance with the bulk of the pack following.
A few of us decided that this was too obvious and went the other way. (Well actually I just popped down the trail for a wee and then made a virtue of it by shouting ‘Checking’). Old Faithful followed on and even Rasta was seen to break into a trot.
After many miles we came to a check to find Treefeller sitting with a bottle of flour in hand grinning at the check.
We had an impromptu re-group and then hash Flash and The Eskimo went off into the distance on a falsie and Sinbad found a trail through the woods that just seemed to disappear into nowhere.
The trail then headed towards the chariots and it was not too long before the On Inn was sighted.
This led to an unseemly shuffle for home by Whispers amongst others and before you could say ‘Lazy hasher’ we were all home and ready to hear the JMs offer a list of nominees. This was a short list.
The recipient was Splasher - not for trying to splash The Panda (that was to be expected) but mainly for being Splasher and trying not to get the hashit.
This was seen as fair and reasonable by all concerned.
Then apres hash at the Woodmans Arms which had just been rebuilt after the last visit but they let the pack back.
So a short but pleasant hash - many thanks to the hares.
Please remember that the 555th Run is on May the 5th (election day).
So after you have done your duty be sure to turn up at Droke at Five to Seven for a short hash. Send your orders for T shirts to Humble Scribe or Spiderman
