Run 566 | 25 September 2005 | Spiderman | Whiteways Lodge Car Park | TQ001108 | | | | |
We were all a bit concerned meeting at Whiteways car park the home to a thousand motor cycle enthusiasts but in the event they did not turn up (probably because they had heard that hashers were going to meet there and they did not want to lower the tone).
A reasonable sized pack (males - no beer belly, females - nothing over a size 12) assembled to hear a quick chat from the JMs and then Spiderman asked us to keep together as a pack as he had laid it on his own. (Well done that hasher)
Treefeller gathered the pack to take a picture on this new fangled thing called a camera and then the pack set off and the first check was a tricky one but down into the woods we went to another check that led a few from the wayside and then onto the made up section through Houghton forest. However we were not to have this treat of easy running for long before it was into the woods again and through the undergrowth.
Bambi had been on some kind of ‘enhanced additive’ as he was bounding along with speed even disdaining a regroup on one occasion but still did not get the hashit.
Considering the age of the pack, the inclination of the pack and the fitness of the pack it all moved along quite swiftly.
We seemed to be going in a large circle but everybody knew the hills were not far off.
Coming back to the made up road we were turned around and finally found a few hills but fortunately nothing too severe.
The recent addition of the ‘Bognor Belles’ in their explosion of Lycra and Eskimo doing Paula Radcliffe impersonations kept the male members of the pack striving to keep up.
It was noticed that calling was not too noticeable but as the pack had become a bit strung out that was not too much of a problem.
We began to go downhill and a few among us thought we knew the way in but the hare turned us away and crossed a road just after a ladies check.
It was at this point that Hash Flash looked at the universal sign for female and asked if the circle and the arrow or the circle and the cross was female. This from a grandfather!!!
(I told you hashers were slow learners). Through the forest and finally the On Inn was sighted and the pack sprinted for home.
(Sprinted in the hash sense you realise, meaning a slightly noticeable turn of speed prompted by the thought of beer).
So the pack tumbled in and gathered around to hear the nominations which were as usual highly dubious and completely unfair.
The aforementioned ‘Bognor Belles’ received it (although it can only be presented to one person) for expecting beer and refreshment stops on all hashes.
Fat chance - I expect free love and world peace but I think there is more chance of getting that getting anything free in this pack.
