Another warm dry sunny summer's day greeted us in the carpark, however only a small pack turned out to enjoy it.
The Ref had honoured us with one of his out of season appearances and Sarah arrived just in time to hear a welcome for two newbies Tom and Kat who had been brought along by Flamingo, Tom being her hatchling.
The hares had little of any worth to say except neither seemed to want to accept responsibility for the route.

We set off north west alongside the road and then across the road and north into Main Wood with easy checks and Old Faithful doing all the work. A small clockwise loop then brought us back to the road and a tough check just south west of Cathanger Farm which gave The Ref a while to get his breath back, he seemed a bit out of condition, he needs more hashing.
Despite Splasher trying to lead us in the opposite direction someone found the way out south east towards Duncton Common. It was here that Mussolini caught us up, playing the old game of late arrival which has become his trademark.

A longish belt downhill now took us down to the familiar bridge over the stream that runs through the common and as one might expect from Splasher the trail over the bridge was false which forced the pack to find a different way across the stream.
The more agile (Tom and Kat) managed to leap across, Soapbox was the first to do a high wire act over a thin fallen tree trunk and Flamingo raised a cheer as she just splashed through closely followed by Sarah. The Ref and Mussolini seemed to just appear on the opposite bank somehow.

From here, those with wet paws had a chance to dry them out with a longish hack through very long grass and bracken as we made our way back to a regroup at the gate by the road near Herringbroom Cottages. Strangely once again there was a buzzard wheeling and mewing in the sky above, just the same as the last time we visited the spot.
Next it was west up the road, north back into the wood and arrival at a second opportunity to cross the stream, however this time the precipitous drop down and climb up appeared much worse than they actually were.
All safely over, a few more easy checks took us to the on-in after one hour and nine minutes, perfect !.

There were a raft of nominations; Spiderman for showing off in his new car, Dr Blood for new shoes (tut tut), with the hash-it being awarded to Mussolini for the double infraction of arriving late and chickening out of the stream crossing.
There were thanks to hares for a great hash with water features and then we went over to The Foresters for the usual.

ON-ON Bambi.
