Bambi was in Wales servicing sheep or whatever he does there so it was left to yours truly to do a shoddy abbreviated missive.

The weather was iffy. Dark clouds to windward. The hash was only arranged at the last minute with great thanks to Mussolini Pancsi and Splasher who kindly stepped in at short notice to lay a trail. Where was everyone? Shall we save the run for anther day? But no! On the hour we had 15 souls so we were a pack.

JM Spiderwomen relayed apologies from Dog Whistler who has recently undergone key-hole surgery on a shoulder and we wished her speedy recovery.

Then over to the hares who mentioned possible shiggy as a result of the damp conditions of late

As directed, we set off from a corner of the car park as the rain started to fall more heavily. Of course, no correct trail was found there as the hares laid the true trail from the other corner.

We headed north east in the rain between the open with a check after a style. The ref found the back check heading for the usual river bank where the pack were reluctant to descend the very steep and dangerous bank across the river.

Further along was another encounter with the stream this time the check was very apparent in the middle of the wet stuff and The Ref was trying to persuade Panda that it was not there.

We continued doing an anticlockwise circuits of the wood. There were a heavy early crop of fungi to identify and plenty of horse tracks but no sign of the beasts that day.

En route, Splasher revealed he had a horse running in a maiden 2 yo race at Sandown and indeed it did - see: http://horses.sportinglife.com/Video/Racing/0,27770,447256_3,00.html

The pack crossed the road into Lavington Plantation National Trust land where the trees have been removed for the benefit of the reptiles. I guess that includes Chi HHH types.

Back in 75 minutes, the hares were complemented on a fine run and JM awarded the hashit to The Ref for his aforementioned misdeed

We then enjoyed a drink or two and some yarns at Grafham's Foresters Arms where we were able to gather at some tables without the 'reserved signs thereupon.
