There is the old adage of when being asked to do something, do it badly so that you don't get asked again. Let's see how well my virgin stab at noting down everyone's particulars is received.

The day was a glorious sunny one and we welcomed new hashers, Dickhead and Soggy Fringe from North Hants to the pack. They have moved to Midhurst to be with us. Thumper regaled us with the day in history - this time we learned that on 27th September 1825, the first steam powered passenger railway opened. Much discussion about where that was without ever actually deciding......I can now tell you it was the Stockton & Darlington Railway.

The stage was handed over to the hares - Dr Blood and Pink Flamingo - who kindly reminded us that Christmas is approaching and that they have generously invited us to convene for the Hangover Hash at Castle Stross for which they received thanks. It felt that this was a softener to us, what past experience has shown, being in for a long one! Dr Blood tried to explain that as PF was still suffering following the foot incident, it was like a live trail although he would be with us. What he meant was the falsies had not been marked so one blob and you're on. Basically a normal Canman hash then.........

And we were off......northeast across the main road and past the cottages skirting along the edge of Eartham Wood. I'm afraid this is where my lack of basic geography and awareness of surroundings comes into play in that we went through woods and fields but I can't tell you which. However, what I can say is that Splasher's secret training regime is paying off in that he was up the front and checking. We reached a further check with people wandering aimlessly about, including the hare. Once we found our way through the brambles (puppy Belle was graciously carried much to her dismay), a further check with Dickhead taking charge of us unruly lot and Bika going off on his own.

We met up with the walkers and it is at this point that I went off piste with them due to have little legs to contend with (both mine and Belle's). I am secretly very very very relieved that I had that excuse as off the rest went up round the beacons to BIGNOR HILL! Oh how I chuckled at my good fortune.

We talked about the naming of Soggy Fringe which came about through always wearing skirts on the hash. At last - a true lady in the ranks! Thumper and I talked about boobs and babies until we reached Gumbar Farm. This was Belle's first experience of sheep and she disgraced herself by having to have their droppings forcibly extracted from her jaws.

Looking back from our amble along Stane Street we could see the runners catching us up, but then stumbled across a fishhook for 8 which would slow them all down. Over the stile and back into North Wood where we met a Scout Leader who had lost 4 scouts - as we never came across them, we hope they aren't still out there. Pancsi, the FRB caught us up followed in hot pursuit by Dickhead, Olive Oyl and Dag.

A short regroup enabled us to record that the fishhook caught Pancsi, Olive Oyl, Dag, Dickhead, Panda, Splasher, Flash and Kinky. Canman also gave a quick history lesson regarding Gumbar Farm being used as a dummy airfield hence the concrete bunker and was also bombed during the war leaving a large crater.

Back along the way we came to reach the ON INN after about 1 hour 45 mins (I think but I can't be sure as forgot to write it down). At the circle, bad jokes about an octopus and dog were told and it became clear that Kinky had not carried the Hash-It because he had a bad leg (?). Nominations were Dr Blood for getting lost on his own hash; myself for tying Flash up with Belle's lead; Pancsi for attempting to kick out the fishhook; Dag for snitching on Pancsi and being perfect; Olive Oyl for old times sake. The baying crowd awarded it to Olive Oyl as she seemed to really want to have it and we retired to The George to sit in the garden, drink, eat and sort out the beer tokens for our Hash with the IOW.

Good times
