It seems to me that all the WEMSFEST hashes have been remarkable in one way or another. This, the fourth I think, was no exception.

A festival chosen venue, with leaflet and online publicity coupled with excellent early autumn weather resulted in a single new hasher by the name of Angela, well, every little helps.

Popping into the bar as the Hashers gathered (after parking in surrounding streets) I had a brief chat with the landlady that left me with a faint impression that the Hash was being welcomed with a little bit less than open arms. Perhaps a worry that a full car park and crowded noisy bar might affect the more lucrative Sunday Lunch trade? I don't know I did not pursue the conversation.

Thumper and Kinky were notable by their absence so Hairbrush stood in, welcomed our visitor and rambled on about how he and some Italian guy enjoy electrocuting frogs in a galvanised bath.

Then Old Faithful launched into an Elf and Safety spiel, and an indication that the first check was just up the road. Of course this was Hare misdirection which should have been doubted but wasn't. So while most of the pack explored a long falsie south on Thorney Road, the walkers including a sprightly Chamois got a heads start on the FP to the marina that's right next to the pub.

There was a series of Checks around the marina where the crunchy gravel made the flour so hard to see that even Old Faithful went the wrong way at one point.

Dag and the increasingly fit Splasher lead us east to Thorney Road while Dr Blood and Angela had to play catch up after a long excursion south on the sea wall towards Thorney Island.

Then nearly everyone continued east towards Thornham Marina except Spiderman who found the true trail north back towards Hermitage.

Soon the front runners were caught because they failed to notice the flour on top of the fence posts east on The Sussex Border Path which led to a long plod to Thornham Farm where a nasty Fish Hook caught Dr Blood, Pink Flamingo, Panda, Angela, Dogwhistle and Spiderman.

A quick tour through Thornham Marina and then north on the sea wall brought us to a regroup by the scout hall in Prinsted.

Since the sun was now well over the yardarm most thought that we would be heading back from here and were reluctant to check further east, so when the trail was found all the way round to Southbourne Church a sizeable bunch jumped ship and headed straight home down the main road.

This write up is going on too long, just like this Hash did, which explains why the remnant pack did more walking than running as it found it's way south west through the streets, past the house that Dag has just failed to purchase and into the fields of Gosden Green and then On-In via the top end of Russet Gardens, just 20 minutes shy of two hours glorious Hashing.

By which time the advance party had decided to decamp to the large foreshore garden of The Lord Raglan, just down the road from The Brewery.

We got stuck into ale and cider and crisps while Hairbrush reviewed nominations of Flash for popping into The Southbourne Club for "a quick one", Dag for being 30 (again), Snake Charmer for forgetting the collection box for Hash 827, and gave the Hash-It to Dag because she got Snake Charmer so drunk that she forgot the box.

On On! Bambi.
