9192019-04-14 11:00Canman, Pancsi, Snake Charmer and Pocket Rocket - perhaps park near the ChurchBinsted The Black Horse SU980064

Sunny morning, pity about the biting cold wind bringing a touch of Siberia in Spring. Something had gone wrong with the longest nerve in Soapbox's body, thus Canman would have been on his own with the flour had not Pocket Rocket, Snake Charmer and Pancsi stepped in to help. Incidentaly this group of hares included the oldest and youngest of our Hashers.

The now normal perfunctory pre Hash pep talk was delivered by our JM in the shadow of the St Mary's blue billboard before Flash and Old Faithful lead us on a short jog to the first Check.

This turned out to be right next to a seven foot wooden carving that featured coiled serpents, which gave rise to too many innuendos along the lines of not having seen that much wood in the morning for a long time etc. Of course Bambi would never participate in such vulgar and suggestive conversation, so it was with some relief that someone found the trail South to Oakley Cottages.

Here Canman was dismayed to discover that a novel Hash mark (see below) that he had invented was no longer visible, having suffered at the hands of a determined saboteur. In essence the Mark was to indicate that the first x Hashers to arrive should continue in a direction indicated by an arrow while the rest of the pack check for and hopefully find an alternative trail nearby, which turns out to be a shortcut to the trail taken by the first arrivals.

This is an alternative to a fish hook however harder to arrange. In any event all this was explained, and we imagined the mark, and Bika, Splasher, The Ref, Old Faithful, Bambi and Dr Blood duly set off on the long-cut accompanied by Pocket Rocket on his Chopper.

Meanwile the rest of the pack found the shortcut East to Meadow Lodge and headed North around the Manor House pond where Deerhunter just loved the wallow in muck and slime, now repeat after me, do NOT be anywhere near when dog emerges from such a place.

Together, we continued North into Pinewoods at pace with a conventional fish hook that caught Two Ferrets, Bika, Bambi and A. N. Other.

Even further North took us through the cross paths that features in the You Tube on our web site Notices titled "Pink Flamingo Flummoxeth us".

West next, through Singer's Piece towards Scotland, perhaps predictable given Canman's origins. We ground to a halt here at the end of Old Scotland Lane, nothing but False, until we were shown a definitely not Kosher trail South in the fields along the edge of Ash Piece until we saw the On-In and once again, the wooden carving , after one hour and nine minutes of breezy hashing.

At the Circle Hairbrush FINALLY produced the Hash-It and because no one wanted to hang around long in the cool air we awarded it to Spiderman as he was standing closest to our JM.

No we did not adjourn to the Black Horse where most of us had left our chariots, instead we called in at the Old Stables near the racecourse where the ale was strong the coffee weak and enjoyed that good old Vintage Pubs experience.

On – On ! Bambi
