"Blow me down! this was a muddy one! T’was a grey winter day, 8 degrees C. and dry with the occasional light drizzle in Droke Lane car park.

The 17 of us motley crew, were rounded up by our new JM, Bambi for the 1001 palindromic hash.

Bambi, welcomed Julia to the group. Sonja was given (Ed: provisionally) the Hash name of Bridget Kneels and clarified that Eddie’s name was Eddie the Eagle henceforth. We bid the name, “Rock Steady Eddie” a fond farewell.

Old Faithful told us the course was smooth sailin' without no roads. So we set off on the choppy waters of a muddy hill, churned up by them landlubbers' forestry work to the west, checkin' then southward. At this point, Can-man, Vixen and Prancer decided that the deep mud and steep climbs really were risking life and limb, and sailed a shorter course.

Having climbed the 40m hill, the track went east before descending though the woods back to road level east again. Having reached the extent of the forestry work the track, Snake Charmer found the route up again to the South. The whole group overran a kicked-out falsie and Substandard found the route south to the top of the hill near Selhurst Park Road where we regrouped (unofficially).

We set sail northward, me hearties, and descended 40 meters deep. We kept straight on at the check and climbed 45 meters westward to the top of the 70 meter climb. But just as we were levelin' off, we spotted a fish-hook we hadn't seen before. But it were a fish-hook for no one, and we were mighty relieved. We regrouped as signaled and set sail again.

At the crossroads, me mateys resisted the urge to head downhill to the carpark and instead sailed westward. We then veered northward on a long and gentle incline, headin' towards the carpark. After checkin' our course, we spotted the on-inn and soon enough, we could make out the carpark through the thicket, havin’ travelled 3.5 miles in 50 minutes ( Ed: 88min more likely).

In the circle, Eddie the Eagle was awarded the Hash-it for advising the group that clothes and a meat sausage had been spotted in the forest, left by picknickers of uncertain intensions. We espied no such thing, t’was a myth, or a rumour to stir our curiosity?

The gently sloping wet muddy carpark proved easy travel for the up-hill parkers but otherwise for down-hill adventurers. 6 of us pushed and pulled Spiderman and Spiderwoman’s car off the grass with its wheels spinning and onto the gravel of greater traction.

The Selhurst arms provided welcome grog, warmth and shelter from our refreshing ordeal.

On-on,

Popeye (arrrr)
