T’was a wet 7°C, which felt cold. Thankfully there was virtually no wind as the group of 13 gathered in Brackelsham bay (Drove lane) carpark. Exceptionally, there were no hash hounds.

Bambi welcomed the group to run 1005 and didn’t regale us with any essential facts as it was cold and wet! (except 1, about Putin).

The hares were Dr Blood, Pink Flamingo, and the Spiders. Spiderman planned the route in great detail but had been confined to quarters with the dreaded lurgi from foreign parts, but Spiderwoman braved the precipitation to help lay flour on the soggy ground. The route had been carefully planned to avoid excessive quantities of mud, but traded that with sections of it being under water. Sometimes you just can’t win.

The route overview was a large triangle – very broadly speaking. On east was outbound, then north along a bank in a little loop, before heading west past Earnley and picking our way through the outskirts of Bracklesham to the beach, as one leg of the triangle. The weather cleared a little with hints of really hazy sun and the surfers frolicked in the swell from the previous days wind on an otherwise flat sea. The hashers headed south east along the beach road and beach only to be caught by a fish hook for 9! (everyone, except the hares). Collecting cuttle fish bones for chelonian pets on the way as we went. Having arrived at Medmerry Beach and the flip flop decorated gate, there was a short easterly leg before we headed north on the home straight picking our way around the full width puddles edged with brambles on Stoney lane before finding the higher ground of Drove lane and the chariots.

In the post run circle Bambi nominated a selection of refreshing “down downs” to:-
1. The Hares, by way of a, “thank you, for laying the trail”
2. Sonja was awarded the Hash-it for enthusiastically researching false trails whilst the rest of us regrouped at a snails pace.
3. The Ref. for exclaiming in surprise, “Oh look! you can see Selsey from here” when he lived there and had just driven from Selsey to the run.
4. Splasher for being ill-equipped to brave the elements and borrowing a waterproof. We didn’t want him shivering after a run (again!).

It was then off to the Anchor at Sidlesham for warm/alcoholic refreshments, having completed the 4.0 mile run in a steady 72 minutes.

On-On,
Popeye
