T’was a warm 15°C, with sunny blue skys, finally! after the cold wet March. There was virtually no wind as the group of 15 and 2 dogs gathered in West Harting Down carpark.
The route overview was a large north east facing lollipop – if you squinted hard enough. On up straight through the forest west outbound, then north north west, before heading west to Harehurst wood and looping around in an erratic manner typical of Hashers. Bambi lamented that Splasher was being too helpful with regards to the true trail direction – it did keep the group moving though. Running in the woods with the rustling beach leaves as the wild garlic sprouted and the trees budded. Spring had finally sprung. A fish hook caught Snake Charmer, Bika and Kinky as they trotted happily(?) to the back of the pack grinning from ear to ear(?). There was a surprisingly organised regroup with seats and wind breaks that people had made in the woods, alas the fire wasn’t lit. But there wasn’t time before we were again bounding through the leaves down a mountain bike trail, with a deer likewise bounding downhill. Belle spotted it too, and gave chase in a sporting fashion before returning to Snake Charmer at a very credible speed for one without long legs. It was then back to the path and on-in down-hill to the waggons having met the walking group many times along the trail. In the post run circle Bambi nominated a selection of refreshing “down downs” to:-
Hash Flash gained a spare lollipop & egg for checking so many falsies, but not finding a paper lollipop (ahh…….) and had new shoes, so he was awarded the Hash-it. It was then off to the Victoria Inn at West Marden warm/alcoholic refreshments in the garden, having completed the 3.6 mile run in a steady 70 minutes. On-On,
