T’was a lovley 20°C, sunny with clouds and a westerly force 4, not that you could detect it in the forest around Lavington Common.
There were just 12 of us and lacking any canine assistance; just the hard core remaining during the holiday season with so many other events going on.

Splasher welcomed us all to Hash 1015 and announced that the Isle of Wight Hash were thinking of visiting us on the 22nd October in Emsworth.
He regaled us with a terrible banana joke and introduced us to the hares, Pansci and himself.
There were normal symbols with 1 quiet road and the on-out was indicated.

The route broadly speaking was 2 triangles and a rectangle with a lead in and out from Lavinton Common to Duncton Common and back.
I would have been able to describe it more accurately had I switched my GPS tracker on,……doh! Having checked out many falsies amongst the rhododendrons and fir trees, we ran 2 thirds of an anticlockwise circle around the heather heath in full bloom, crossed a really quiet road, with a solitary house and 2 really noisy dogs before following the path to the side of this, further into the wood.
A check and trail to the right indicated the start of the return journey to complete the 2 triangles and rectangle, where a fishhook caught Kinky, Turkey Tail, Pocahontas.
The rest of the group charged on only to find a second fishhook for Kinky (again!) and Doctor Blood.

Part way around Kinky commented that we were really missing most of the fit/quick people as FRBs to check out the trail for the rest of us.
The cheek of it! especially as he had chosen the true trail on 4 or 5 successive checks, saving so much energy in the process.

On a different note; a contingent of us had noticed that the recent rains and warm weather had bought out the mushrooms.
We spotted, lots of earthballs with their black core, various brittle gills (Russula) in red, yellow and a dirty brown.
There was a Penny Bun that would have been tasty had it not be trodden on, and we chatted to a lady who had found some bright yellow baby chanterells, much to her delight.
There were many orange coloured false chanterells to be found - the ones with the true gills! So busy spotting mushrooms were we, that we lost sight of the rest of the group for a while and had to scurry on for a bit.

The trail was probably about 4 miles long completed in something over an hour – having a GPS watch is one thing, switching it on quite another.

In the post run circle, we thanked the Hares for a great hash.

The Hash-it was awarded to Turkey Tail for not being obsequious enough to the Hash master.

On-On,
