T’was a lovley 19°C, sunny with clouds and a north westerly force 4, that you could hardly feel at the Woodmancote pub and surrounding environs. There were 14 of us and Belle in the holiday season. Popeye welcomed all to Hash 1016 and announced that he had no other announcements but invited such from others. Spiderman said that there was a joint hash the following weekend Sept. 3rd, with Hursley and Northhants H3 from the Hawkely Inn near Liss, more information on the web site under, “Notices”. The floor then went to the hares Prancer and Cheesy Chips. Prancer mentioned that he laid the trail on his own, as Cheesy Chips was rather hung over and still in bed. They both reconnoitred the route which was stored on Prancers phone. Had he brought that phone, it would have aided laying the trail considerably, unfortunately he didn’t and got lost whilst laying it. However, hats off to him for soldiering on solo, and getting back to the start with plenty of time to spare. The route broadly speaking, was a large, angular, miss-shaped, short handled lollipop on its side. On east we went along Woodmancote lane before a sneaky check took us south to Devil’s Copse. The path wound its way through the Copse to the A27 and then east to a foot bridge, south over the A27 and then east past Winton’s Farm and the Water cress beds into Hambrook. North we then travelled, back over the A27 and west before heading north east through paddocks occupied by a most friendly and inquisitive bay mare together with other horses at Switchback Farm. At the West Ashling turn the route wound north west. There was a fish hook that should have caught some, but yours truly, being deeply engrossed in some random discussion was classified as a walker and discounted from being the rearmost turning point. North along “The Bridal Lane” caused Popeye to think that the bride must have been so proud to travel on “The Bridal Lane” (and only thinking of horse bridals later on). West, we then travelled, with barking dogs to be heard, a kennel perhaps, and gravel pits it says on the map, not to be seen though. Another fish hook caught Kinky, Dr, Blood, Turkey Tail, Snake Charmer and Popeye before we crossed Marlpit lane and skirted Jaybees farm. Then the On-Inn lead us back to the Woodmancote Lane and the Woodmancote pub. There was nothing for the mushroom report for this run, the weather being warmer and dryer in recent weeks. The trail was about 3.3 miles long completed in 65 minutes – a shorter hash this time and most enjoyable.
The nominations for the Hash-it were:-
As we were at the Woodmancote pub, we stayed there and enjoyed well-earned refreshments in the sunny beer garden. On-On,
