T’was an overcast muggy 20oC with a hint of drizzle and no wind in Catherington Lane car park, where the 16 of us gathered with Aragorn, keen to run as ever.
Bambi welcomed all to Hash 1017 and introduced the Hares, Kinki and Thumper who explained the markings.

The route broadly speaking was a clockwise squarish circle.
The group headed off on the obvious path only to find it false and that the true trail was over the road to the east. As we tiptoed respectfully though the grave yard. We then headed north and east before heading south on the edge of the Clanfied estate up and down hills, weaving our way towards a junction with the A3(M) along Stubbins Down.
A fishhook caught Sausage Lottery, The Ref. Olive Oil and Hiawatha (or should that be Pocahontas?).
We skirted Horndean Community School playing field before crossing the main road and heading north around Catherington.
We headed up hill again munching blackberries and gathering hazel nuts (at least I was), as we travelled on Catherington Lith/Down, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with the birds tweeting, we came across a tree that had been carved into Hooty the Barn owl. As we weaved our way back to the car park.

The trail was 4.1 miles long completed in 95 minutes – a most enjoyable hash.
In the post run circle, Bambi thanked Kinky for a great hash whilst Thumper kept dry in the Farmer Inn a minute down the road.

Down-downs were awarded to:-

  • Paul and Substandard for being lead astray across a field where there wasn’t a trail.
  • The Ref.for being too early plus Popeye and Olive Oyl for being 2 minutes late.
  • MJ for discussing possible route direction with a stranger.
  • Kinky by way of a thank you for laying the trail
  • Bambi for recovering from the Omicron flavour of COVID

The Hash-it was awarded to The Ref.

As we were so close to the Farmer Inn, we joined Thumper there and enjoyed well-earned refreshments.

    On-On,
    Popeye.
