It was Bright enough for us to cast a feint shadow outside The Cricketers on a calm day at the fag end of March. Not many shadows at that. We were very happy to see two visitors, Night Rider (PH3) and virgin Kim (London), with their arrival the average age of the pack was greatly reduced from it's level near the geriatric end of the scale.

Bika drove past in a bright blue micro chariot, looking for a parking spot, and while we waited for him to join us, Wayne got something off his chest. At the previous run, during the apres Hash feeding frenzy Wayne had accidentally sent Bambi's old coffee mug to the grim shard reaper with a sweeping movement of the Hand. Now he was pleased to present Bambi with a fine unique replacement bearing an image of the famous cartoon character created by Walt and some words "Bambi HHH Runner" just in case there is any doubt as to who's mug it is.

Finally Bika arrived and we set off to the clamorous emanations from Kinky's horn roughly West on Commonside. In the usual general rushing about to find the start of a trail, Wayne and Bambi stumbled on the "On-In" marking, as laid out in rule 42 of the Hashing Code they immediately stared into their Men In Black Neuralyzer and forgot .

The trail was found, not West on School Lane, which would have been too easy, but deeper into the Westbourne metropolis on North Street and then West along Long Copse Lane. The reason for this became apparent when we discovered that this potholed scraggy road was flooded. Most Hashers enjoy a good splashy experience in horse poop infused water.

By now our visitors and Wayne were well ahead of the rest, and increasingly so because the Hares did not go into the parkland South of the lane as any sane person might expect, but remained true to a long slog to the very end of Longcopse. Here at least was a Fish Hook for four which caught Kim, Night Rider, Wayne and Bambi, and we were all together again.

You will never guess what's just North of the end of the Lane, it's an entrance to Hollybank Wood, the very same turf that we trampled on just a fortnight ago, and that is where we went next. This time however we did not face the knee deep quagmire that this place offers in spades, because the trail pretty much went directly North to cross Emsworth Common Road on The Sussex Border Path. Of course there were plenty of taken opportunities for false trails to right and left, each one and adventure into shiggy culminating in the dreaded three dots, and no sight of The Little People that were here last time.

Across the road, in Shuffles Plantation the same tactic was employed as we raced to Woodberry Lane along the border with a Fish Hook that caught the same four fish bringing us together once again as we headed South East towards Monk's Hill.

We'd been warned of tarmac at the start, and this was a long stretch that revealed our relative fitness in a very visual way, with the young fit things becoming distant dots while bringing up the rear the "less fit" were deep in discussion about various infirmities and how hard it is to get a doctor's appointment these days.

Luckily, by the time the rearguard, including Bambi, reached the stile onto Monks Hill Road, the pack had come to a halt, not sure why?, anyway, we had a "say cheese" moment before taking the obvious route down the hill, through the playing field to find the long forgotten On-In after just on the hour of quick quick slow hashing.

We dashed into The Cricketers, no contention with Sunday Lunchers here, there aren't any, just don't sit where the regulars usually plant themselves and everything is dandy. Soon we were quaffing ale and our JM convened a small circle, first administering a double dose of down down to Prancer (Hare), who took one for Cheesy Chips (Hare) not present due to exhaustion and we are very grateful to them another challenging trail. Then of course Night Rider and the virgin Kim, Bika (arriving in little blue blob), we gave the Hash-It to Wayne for mugging Bambi.
