9742022-01-02 11:00The 3 Phils (Substandard/Van_Man/Hardcore) and Splasher - Hangover HashGoodwood - Counters gate car park SU897113

It could be tropical weather in Chichester city centre and it would still be blowing a hoolie up at Goodwood Racecourse and today was no exception.
A good turnout (including a welcome back to Hornblower who told us he had nothing better to do) which could be something to do with the promise of mulled wine and nibbles - which hasher doesn't love a freebie. But drumroll.......we had some VIRGIN HASHERS to welcome! Substandard had obviously promised Eddie and Andrew an experience to remember so let's hope we didn't disappoint.
Talking of disappointing, Slightly along with Sausage Lottery, Blindness, Snake Charmer and Bika had brought along their hounds who all decided to have their own noisy hash circle to drown out the human variety at 11am.
Substandard and Olive Oyl talked us through the hash - warm, short, flat, dry etc etc and we were off to find the on out in all directions. Bika went east toward Halnaker Park - Snake Charmer, Slighty Disappointing and Hornblower west toward the Trundle. Bika was the lucky one and surprised most of the pack for two reasons - one he was FRB and the other, we were heading where we were not expecting.

Out of Counters Gate trees, across the field and down to East Dean Hill (South). A check here found Hornblower knowing the way and into the dry and sure footed (.....not) paths of Halnaker Park. It was here that Snake Charmer discovered Olive Oyl was not a hare to give any clues away.....even to her nearest and dearest as Popeye had not been forewarned to wear any shoes with grips and was last seen slaloming his way down to the bottom paths on his new invention......trainer skis.
The quagmire that greeted us was inescapable so everyone waded through, with Hornblower being a gentleman and allowing Snake Charmer past to reach the fishhook for four first, with (I think) Bika, Slightly Disappointing and Pancsi joining her?
Through the woods and toward Selhurstpark Road saw us cross this and over toward East Dean. Eddie and Andrew were doing a sterling job and joining in near the front - they just escaped a fishhook which again caught Snake Charmer, Pancsi and Hornblower.
Back toward East Dean Hill (North) and a bit of confusion about the way as most of the pack decided it couldn't possibly be in the direction of East Dean as we could smell the chariots - however, Substandard and Olive Oyl had scouted the route well, so off away from Counters Gate we headed. A short skirt around the field found us crossing the road and heading back toward dry clothes.
Hornblower found a blob of something looking remarkably like a fishhook for four parallel with Selhurstpark Road but Snake Charmer had an out of body experience which saw her pick up a stick, channel Pablo Picasso and make it a reworked piece of art resembling an R for regroup. This was met with the call of "cowards" from Olive Oyl but she allowed us to carry on and reach the ON INN with resounding applause, food and drink from those waiting including Treefeller, Soapbox, Tigger and Substandard's extended family.

A brilliant and very enjoyable hash - thank you Substandard and Olive Oyl. A gathering (it's not a party if there is cheese and wine) to eat and drink before the hash it was awarded to Bika for attempting to be posh and sophisticated.

Although a slightly different Hangover Hash in terms of venue, Dr Blood and Pink Flamingo decided two years at the helm was punishment enough and handed the mantle over to Pancsi, Popeye and Snake Charmer, who in turn thanked them both for steering the club through rough waters of the pandemic and for agreeing to extend their tenure during that time.
Hasher of the Year was said, but it's a secret until next time......
